Why you’ll love this recipe:

If you’re unfamiliar with simple syrup, it’s a mixture of dissolved sugar and water that creates a thick syrup for cocktails, coffee, tea, and desserts. It’s sold in the store, but it’s super easy and budget-friendly to make at home. This peach simple syrup is my new obsession! Here’s why I adore it …

  • Sweet, peachy flavor
  • Only two ingredients, plus water!
  • Super easy to make!

It’s as simple as boiling peaches, sugar, and water in the same pot, then straining the mixture. The results? Sweet, peachy, liquid nectar!

Key Ingredient Notes:

This peach syrup recipe requires two simple ingredients, plus water!

3 peaches, granulated sugar in a measuring cup and glass of water.
  • Peaches – For best results, use ripe and juicy peaches! It’s not necessary to peel them since the syrup will need to be strained anyhow. If you don’t have fresh peaches, frozen peaches work too, but the results vary.
  • Water – Without water, it would just be peach puree! Water creates a syrupy consistency.
  • Sugar – To sweeten the syrup! Technically, any sweetener works, each one having a slightly different flavor. Honey, brown sugar, or cane sugar are good options.

How to make this recipe:

  1. Pit and slice the peaches. Use a paring knife to cut a peach in half lengthwise, all the way around the pit. Twist both halves to separate them, release the pit, and slice the peach. The slices don’t need to be uniform or pretty.
  2. Transfer the sliced peaches, water, and sugar to a medium saucepan. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat.
  3. Simmer for 15 minutes, gently mashing the peaches with a fork.
  4. Remove the pan from the heat and strain the mixture through a fine-meshed sieve sitting over a bowl or liquid measuring cup. Carefully press the pulp mixture with a spoon to release as much juice as possible!

Tip

The longer you cook the syrup, the darker and thicker it becomes.

Transfer the cooled syrup to a sealed bottle or airtight container and refrigerate for up to two weeks.

Tips for Success:

  • Be sure to chill the syrup before adding it to all your favorite drinks. Or else it will warm up your iced drinks!
  • Don’t discard the mashed peaches! Top French toast, waffles, or pancakes with it, mix it into oatmeal, or serve it with yogurt & granola!
  • To lengthen its shelf life, use the water bath method to can the syrup. Canned peach syrup lasts for up to 1 year!
  • Be extremely careful straining the peach mixture while it’s hot! Feel free to let it cool for a while first.
  • Avoid cooking the mixture on high heat. Otherwise the sugar will caramelize!

Peach Syrup Variations:

This peach simple syrup recipe is easy to customize! Try something new with one of these simple variations.

  • Cinnamon sticks – Add a cinnamon stick or two! Carefully remove them before straining the mixture.
  • Vanilla extract – For a sweet, vanilla essence!
  • Spices – Warm fall spices work great. Think nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves.
  • Herbs – Fresh rosemary, basil, or mint pair well with peaches.

Ways to use peach syrup:

  • Peach tea – Use it to sweeten iced tea! Add sliced peaches for even more peachy flavor.
  • Sangria – Add it to rose sangria, or any of your favorite sangria recipes.
  • Lemonade – Make peach lemonade! Swap regular sugar with peach syrup.
  • Italian soda – Combine it with club soda, then top with cream!
  • Cocktails – It’s great for Bellini’s, margaritas, and mules!
  • Fruit salad – Toss with fresh fruit for a quick fruit salad.
  • Yogurt – Stir into unsweetened yogurt, then top with granola.

Storing Tips:

  • Store simple syrup in an airtight container or sealed jar in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
  • To freeze, carefully pour the syrup into an ice cube tray and freeze for up to 3 months.
  • If you don’t want to use the syrup immediately, can the syrup with the water bath method. It will last up to one year if canned properly in sterilized jars.
