You guys, have you heard of freak cakes? They’re kind of hot right now.

If you haven’t heard, freak cakes are close cousins of freakshakes, those overloaded and overindulgent milkshakes with mile high toppings. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, search #freakshakes on Instagram. See? Insanely overdone, but totally appetizing, right?

But I don’t know how one drinks (eats?) that thing. Pick at it one topping at a time? Is it possible to eat the whole thing in one sitting? Do you even share it?

I don’t know. But I do know that freak cakes are just as overindulgent, if not more, and you share it with others. The more, the merrier! And no, you don’t have to finish it in one sitting!

Today I’m going to show you how to easily create this masterpiece in as little as 15 minutes!

We’re making ice cream freak cake with pre-made frozen OREO® Ice Cream Cake from I Love Ice Cream Cakes. OMG, this cake is the bomb, vanilla-flavored ice cream loaded with OREOS!!! What’s not to love?!

And as you know, I love my homemade Oreo ice cream. But if you don’t feel like making one from scratch, head over to your nearest grocery store and grab this cake instead.

Ok, back to freak cake business…

We’re not just stacking 2 ice cream cakes on top of each other here. Ok, we’re doing exactly that, BUT with a special layer of indulgent frosting in between. Whipped cream + crushed Oreo cookies = HEAVEN! (<- I borrowed that frosting idea from my friend Amy.)

With an additional frosting, the cakes are basically glued together for good.

And now we get to the fun part! Toppings!!!

You can top your cake with whatever your heart desires! Here’re a few ideas: Oreo cookies (whole, halved, and/or crushed), mini Oreo cookies, Oreo truffles, chocolate macarons, chocolate bars, basically anything with chocolate will do.

And voila! Your freak cake is ready to impress your guests. Whether you’re hosting a summer birthday party, or just having friends over, hope you’ll bring this beautiful ice cream cake out and indulge together on a hot summer evening.

Not that you need any excuses to party, but July is National Ice Cream Month! There’s no better time to throw an ice cream cake party. Just saying…
