Surprisingly creamy and smooth, this banana strawberry ice cream is a healthy and dairy-free treat with just 2 ingredients. Eat it for breakfast, if you want to, guilt-free!

Anyone up for an ice cream? Sure you do!

How about absolutely healthy and guilt-free one? Skeptical? I know I was too, until I had my first spoonful of this creaminess back in 2013! OMG, in 2013!!! Like 6 years ago! Whoa, where did the time go?!

Since then I got married and had two babies with absolutely crazy sweet tooth, just like their mama! My 3-year-old Grant is currently in a habit of having an ice cream break after his nap. Obviously, it was becoming a very unhealthy habit, but instead of saying ‘no’ to his favorite time of the day, I remembered about this little gem!

Strawberry banana ice cream to the rescue!

One afternoon, Grant and I made this delicious frozen treat together and had so much fun! He absolutely enjoyed his bowl of ice cream and I was happy he wasn’t filling himself up with ton of sugar every day.

And the best part? You only need 2 ingredients! TWO!!!

Actually, you really only need super ripe bananas to make this ice cream, but strawberries add new flavor and excitement.

Place frozen strawberries and banana into a food processor and pulse away! It takes a little bit to get to creamy stage, but be patient and let the food processor work its magic.

Seriously, it can’t get any simpler than this!

It’s so magical to watch how frozen chunks of fruits turn into creamy smooth ice cream right in front of your eyes. Banana is a truly magical fruit!

WHAT EQUIPMENT I NEED TO MAKE BANANA ICE CREAM?

As for equipment you don’t need an ice cream maker. But you do need a good food processor! I use my 14-cup Cuisinart food processor (our wedding gift!)

CAN I USE BLENDER TO MAKE BANANA ICE CREAM?

If you have high-powered blender, like Vitamix, it may work, but regular blender won’t cut it.

DO I NEED TO ADD SWEETENER IN STRAWBERRY BANANA ICE CREAM?

If you’re using super ripe banana, which is what you should be using for best result, you won’t need any additional sweetener. Besides, strawberries also add nice sweetness to the ice cream!

P.S. Now I don’t serve this creamy treat in pretty glass bowls, like I used to 6 years ago! 🙂

Surprisingly creamy and smooth, this banana strawberry ice cream is 100% healthy and dairy free. Eat for breakfast if you want to, guilt-free!

Hope you love bananas as much as we do, because I don’t want you to miss out on this deliciously creamy and healthy treat. 🙂

Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 2 bananas sliced and frozen
  • 8-10 strawberries cut and frozen
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract optional
Note: I test all my recipes with both measurements for the most precise and accurate result!

Instructions

  • Place frozen bananas and strawberries in a food processor.
  • Process for 4-5 minutes, or until nice and creamy. It'll take a few minutes to get to creamy consistency, but be patient.
  • Stir in pure vanilla extract, if desired.
  • Serve it right away as soft serve ice cream, or freeze it in an airtight container for couple hours to firm up. If frozen hard, let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes.

I made this but added about a 1/8 of a cup sugar and a tiny bit more vanilla.  Very tasty!  I’m sure that it’s very yummy and satisfying without the sugar, too.

I made this with and without frozen bananas. I also added some light cool whip. Kept it from freezing so hard.

Does it matter if it isn’t a ripe banana? Have a few brown ones frozen that I set aside for banana bread but thought I’d try this for something different

Hi, Anne. I like to use ripe and frozen bananas for this one, because ripe bananas are sweeter. Did you freeze unripe bananas?

Is it okay if I use fresh fruits instead of frozen fruits and then freeze the cream??

Hi, Flarrow! You’ll have to use frozen fruits to get the creamy texture. Fresh fruits won’t work, as you’ll just get fruit puree.

Is it okay to use another fruit like perhaps frozen blueberries or something along those lines instead of strawberries? I’m allergic to strawberries 🙁

I don’t see why you could not, Max. Give it a try, it should be fine. And let me know how it turned out. 🙂

In your ingredients list I think you mean pure vanilla extract, although pure vanilla ice cream might be fun too!
