Are you hooked on Pinterest yet? I know I am. I learn so many new things everyday. While browsing through different pins recently, I came across this wonderful site and learned awesome trick to decorate cakes. It looked doable right away and I was itching to try this trick.

Ok, let me show you this method. If you would like to check out the original source, click here.
Choose a picture that you would like to have on your cake.
In this case, I printed out an Easter Bunny coloring book from the internet.
Make sure the image fits the top of your cake.
If your image has words, just copy and paste into Word and print the mirror image.

Now, to make the main tool, tape the picture on the back of a glass of picture frame. Cover the glass with plastic wrap and tape on the back.
Basically, you will end up with Picture + Glass + Plastic Wrap work platform.

Prepare your frosting, add the coloring that you need. I’m going to outline my image in dark gray color.
Transfer the colored frosting into a piping bag with a very fine decorating tip. Mine is Wilton #2.

Are you excited yet? This is the best part. Don’t be nervous, it’s easier than you think. Just take a deep breath and start outlining the image. This is the first layer and the top of the final image.

Onto the next color… I don’t have many decorating tips, and for small amount of frosting, it’s actually easier to use a small sandwich bag and cut a small hole in the corner.

Continue with adding details on the first layer and then fill in the remaining area with main color over the details.
Tip: Make sure you fill in over the edges as well. I didn’t do a very good job, and my outline was very fragile. Don’t make this mistake.

Put the finished image with the glass into the freezer for at least 30 minutes.

Now, let’s get busy with the cake. Of course, at this stage you should have baked your cake already.
The top of you cake should be nice and flat. Frost your cake and decorate the sides and the bottom.

I’m not a professional baker, and my frosting skill is far from perfect. 🙂

Final step, take the frosting image from the freezer. Make sure it’s frozen.
Un-tape the plastic wrap with quick hand and revert it onto the cake.
Press it down a little bit and voila!!!

This was my very first experiment with this method, and I’m very satisfied with the result.
I hope you give it a try and let me know how it turned for you.

Happy Easter to those who celebrate!
