Avocado chocolate mousse… So 2013, eh?

I agree. I shared this recipe almost 6 years ago! (Say, what?? Time sure flies!) I bet every dessert blog has a variation of it. It was quite a hype back then! For a good reason though.

This simple faux chocolate mousse is way easier to make than real one, but it tastes just as indulgent. Plus, it’s loaded with good-for-you fats and nutrients and makes a totally acceptable breakfast.

And now that I have little humans, I love to spoil them with all kinds of treats. But since I don’t want to feed them with processed stuff all the time, I turned to my old favorite, avocado chocolate mousse. Grant loved making it with me and enjoyed every spoonful!

HOW TO MAKE AVOCADO CHOCOLATE MOUSSE

As mentioned earlier, it takes less than 5 minutes to whip up a batch of this chocolate goodness. And you only need 5 ingredients!

Also, this is a very forgiving recipe. You can easily change things up to suit your taste. For example, you substitute regular milk or coconut milk for almond milk. Don’t have maple syrup, use agave syrup or even honey. Not a Nutella fan? Add melted chocolate instead.

Now that’s what we call flexible recipe!

Once you process everything in a food processor until nice and smooth, you can eat it right away or divide into small ramekins and chill for couple of hours.

Freshly whipped mousse tastes a like like a chocolate pudding though. Delicious nonetheless!

Now a few words about toppings…

Obviously, toppings are totally optional here, but why not fancy them up a little if we can, right?

To keep it in the healthy zone, sprinkle some unsweetened coconut chips for beautiful texture contrast.

This avocado chocolate mousse is thick and rich dessert. To light it up, top it with whipped cream. Or if you’re serving it for breakfast, stir in some unsweetened Greek yogurt!

Fresh berries are also a great choice!!

And saving the best for last!

My most favorite combo is salty potato chips crushed over the mousse. Salty meets sweet, crunchy meets smooth! HEAVEN!!!

Enjoy!

  1. Is there anything you can substitute for the Nutella? Thanks! This chocolate mousse looks amazing and I can’t wait to try it.

    1. Hmm, I believe you can just omit Nutella and increase cocoa and maple syrup amounts. I never made this recipe without Nutella, so I can’t provide more specific advise. Sorry.
